On view at DOMA through December 18*: "Jan Petry's Gift: Outsider and Folk Art in the Museum" features two dozen+ works from the estate of advertising executive, collector, curator, and artist Jan Petry, Ball State ’61. As part of her legacy, Jan donated her art collection to Intuit Art Museum in Chicago and DOMA in Muncie.

The bulk of Jan’s bequest consists of drawings, paintings, and sculpture by American self-taught artists who guided their own artistic paths outside of conventional academic and museum systems. Another portion comprises works by mainstream artists inspired by outsider art. Some of the regional and national artists represented include Hannelore Baron, Roger Brown, Tony Fitzpatrick, Michael Hernandez de Luna, Louise Nevelson, and H. C. Westermann.

Mark your calendar for 10/15, when Intuit's Chief Curator and Senior Director of Special Exhibitions Alison Amick will give a public lecture in Recital Hall. A 5p reception and chance to view the exhibition will precede the 6p talk. Visit bsu.edu/doma for more info.

She had to settle for the kitchen as her studio but Lee Krasner finally gets her share of the spotlight at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Big news: one of DOMA’s most beloved paintings, the monumental “Right Bird Left" by American artist Lee Krasner (1908–1984), recently took flight from Muncie for New York City! DOMA is lending the giant canvas to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the blockbuster exhibition "Krasner and Po***ck: Past Continuous,” on view from October 4 through January 31, 2027. A favorite among our museum’s visitors, we are thrilled to share "Right Bird Left” with hundreds of thousands of visitors to The Met from around the world. 🩷🖼🍃

Happy Labor Day Weekend! As a reminder, the museum is closed on Saturday, September 5, for the holiday weekend, and will reopen with regular public hours on Tuesday, September 8.
