This October the State Historical Society's "100 Years of Route 66" traveling exhibit is coming to Jones Memorial in Mt. Vernon and Phelps School. We're signing up volunteers now. Please message us here if you can help. The exhibit will be at Jones Memorial through Apple Butter Makin' Days, then Phelps School on Historic Route 66.

Also during Apple Butter Makin' Days, the Adamson Cabin will be brought back to life again, hosting visitors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, October 10, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 11. Our favorite blacksmith and broommaer, Michael and June Freund, will be back, along with flintknapper Jim Redfearn.

The museum at Jones Memorial will also be open that weekend.

It's a sign! (Well, both literally and figuratively!)
And this is why we built this sign structure bigger and stronger than a normal one would have been built: To withstand these Missouri winds, and to add. remove and change out the smaller ones as needed.
Spencerfest 2026 is on and we will update the event on our page a little later this week.
If you are coming, PLEASE RSVP so we have a headcount to better plan with.

Few periods in local history are as impactful — and as complex — as the Civil War in Missouri. This September, the Library is presenting the inaugural Remembering the Civil War in Missouri series, featuring programs with authors and historians, as well as a walking tour of the Springfield National Cemetery.

Please join Lawrence County Historical Society at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at Jones Memorial Chapel when we explore the lives and times of Revolutionary War veterans Thomas Hash and William Lumley, both of whom are buried in Lawrence County. The program is by Mendi Stroud Wormington and Trevor Keckler. Mendi will be the presenter.
This will be part of the celebration of America’s 250th in Lawrence County. Please spread the word!
The LCHS Museum at Jones Memorial will be open 1-4 that day. Admission is free.
Jones Memorial Chapel is located at 11110 Lawrence 1137, Mt. Vernon (west of the golf course).
