Featured on NBC's Today Show, CBS Evening News, Fox News, USA Today, Washington Post, and the Travel Channel, walk in the steps of heroes at the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. Guests can step aboard two museum ships: the USS Yorktown CV-10, an Essex-class aircraft carrier, and the USS Laffey DD-724, a Sumner-class naval destroyer. In addition, 29 aircraft are on display from conflicts ran

ging from World War II to present-day operations. The national Congressional Medal of Honor Museum is also currently located aboard the USS Yorktown (currently closed for renovations and re-opening in May 2024). On the museum's landside is a true-to-scale exhibit of a Vietnam-era Naval Support Base and a Cold War Sub Memorial. Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum also offers one of the nation's largest education and overnight camping programs, with more than 40,000 school-age children attending these programs each year. We offer structured programs focusing on history, science, and technology curriculum coursework. For more than 30 years, organized groups of 10 or more have spent historic nights aboard the USS Yorktown - sleeping in the berthing areas once used by sailors and learning about patriotism, honor, and naval aviation. Campers sleep in the berthing areas where the sailors once slept and learn about naval and aviation history. Each camping package includes the museum's "Live Like A Sailor" program. Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is available as an event location. There are many spaces aboard the museum’s ships and surrounding property that can accommodate groups of 15 to 4,000. Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is located on the Charleston Harbor at 40 Patriots Point Road, Mt. Posting Policy: Thank you for liking the page for the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their bravery secured the freedoms we enjoy, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

At Patriots Point, their stories live on—through the courage they had, the history they shaped, and the legacy they left behind.

Today, we honor them.

From first time to all the time, a visit to Patriots Point is always time well spent.

Before texts and emails, there were letters like these. ✉️

During World War II, Lt. Gerald Hennesy wrote home from the Pacific, sharing everyday moments of life at sea aboard the USS Yorktown. Rather than focusing on combat, his words spoke of meals, bunkmates, routines, and the hope of returning home.

Today, those letters offer something often more powerful than a photo: a personal glimpse into the life of a young aviator during one of history’s defining moments, where what may have seemed like the smallest stories were the ones that stayed with us longest.

Eighty-one years ago today, the world marked Victory in Europe Day as World War II came to an end in Europe.

V-E Day was more than a moment of celebration. It was the result of years of sacrifice made by servicemembers and families across the globe who endured hardship in the fight. Today, we honor the legacy of the Greatest Generation and remember all those who served during one of history’s defining moments.
