A Tuesday Story
Cats aren't my animal of choice.
However, they're a necessity here to keep the field mice at bay.
We have had a very good cat in the past. We also have a pretty sweet cat now.
Then there is Murdock.
Murdock is the world's most annoying cat. He's the very reason I don't enjoy cats.
And I remind him of this fact daily.
Because every time I head to the house from the chicken pen, there is Murdock ... always getting in front of me, relentlessly holding that lead position, and always always In. My. Way.
I tell him, "If you look up ANNOYING in the dictionary, there will be a picture of you."
Undeterred, he continues to annoy ... I mean "lead" me.
This morning, as I struggled with him being underfoot and in my way, I asked ... "Why??? Are you afraid a wild animal is going to attack me? As if you'd actually save me from a random animal assault."
Just as I muttered this, there was a startling commotion.
I trained my eyes upward, where the noise was coming from, and lo, a squirrel had scampered up the tin roof of the shed. Just as I spotted him, the squirrel leapt from the shed to the roof of the garage, and ran up and over ... away, and out of sight.
At that exact moment (this all happened very fast), Murdock looked back at me and said, "See? You're welcome, my liege."
Me thinks he thinks of himself a bit too highly.
The end.
