The kids' beginning oil painting class is well under way, learning to mix colors and exploring abstract art and palette knife work. This is a great group of young people, enthusiastic and eager, and I am having such a good time with them!

We had SUCH a good time at yesterday's Britto Art class! Many thanks to Lindy Hall for leading us through this fun exercise in self-portraits using the Britto modern-art technique.

Hey, y'all, look at this! It is a self-portrait done in the modern-art Britto style by our Lindy Hall. Come to the Evening at the Gallery from 5:00-6:30 on Monday, August 17 to see what Lindy really looks like, and let her guide you in this fun technique as you paint a portrait of yourself or a friend! Bring a friend and an 8x10 canvas or two and we will provide the paint and brushes. Please let us know if you're coming; signup sheet is at the gallery, or you can call us. Free to members, $10 fee for non-members.

And that's a wrap! June Lamoureux's class in Fancy Doodling was the last for this year's summer session, and the kids had fun making and then painting random doodles out of their imaginations. Many, many thanks to the teachers who volunteered their time and efforts for this always fun and entertaining program. The gallery is always tickled to have the kids and watch them learn to "do art," and we often see real talent in the works they produce. Thanks to all who brought their children to the classes, those who realize the value of art in our lives. We are already looking forward to seeing them again next year!

PLEASE NOTE: the "Evening at the Gallery" scheduled for Monday, July 20 has been cancelled due to apparent lack of interest. This month the project was to be Flower Pressing.

We had a fine time yesterday, with 10 kids selecting and painting rocks, and then building people to be glued onto tiles for cute wall hangings. It's always such fun to watch them carefully pick out their rocks and then transform them into art. Some painted faces, some created scenes, all were creative and each was a unique expression of the child's imagination. Next Wednesday will wrap up our session for this year, with Creative Doodling, an exercise in total imagination. It's not too late to sign your child up for this class, which is for ages 5-10. $5 per child, all supplies provided. They should wear old clothes or overshirts. 😂

Entergy has planned an electrical outage for Mount Ida. This will be this Thursday July 9th from 7am - 1pm for much of Mount Ida. The Gallery will be closed during that time to preserve the conditions in the gallery. Please come and see us after 1!
