Smithville Annex Gallery

Historic Smithville Park

803 Smithville Rd.

Eastampton, NJ 08060

Denise McDaniel is an oil painter best known for her Plein air and landscape paintings. Her art reflects a lifetime of study and practice that began with a love of children’s book illustrations and is informed by academic training and museum scholarship. At heart, she sees herself as a social painter, doing her best work en Plein air, or in workshops and studios with other artists.

“Days of Future Passed”, is to be a retrospective of the artist’s paintings and drawings. The show will highlight Plein air and landscape paintings created from locations all over Burlington County and include still life and portraiture in a variety of media. The exhibition will also debut of a number of new and unreleased works.

Revolutionary War Alliance of Burlington County

Please join us for an open discussion about preserving Burlington County's rich Revolutionary War History. Our Rev War sites are under attack from all sides and time is against us. We want to hear your ideas and concerns about these crucial historic sites. From 1776-1778 Burlington County was at the center of The American Revolution, yet there is not one monument or preserved site in the entire county while every county that surrounds us has some kind of memorial. Now is your chance to be heard. Come to the Sprinfield Municipal Building February 8th at 1:00 in the afternoon and bring your family and friends.

Revolutionary War Alliance of Burlington County

It occurred to us, after reading some of the responses, that maybe a short recap of the battle and its significance might be in order. At dawn on December 23, 1776 Samuel Griffon and 600 Americans stood toe to toe with 2,400 Hessian and British soldiers at Petticoat Bridge.Outnumbered 3-1 Griffon withdrew through Slabtown to Mount Holly fighting as he retreated. This retreat finally culminated at the Battle of Iron Works Hill. The commander found Mount Holly to be such a nice place that he stayed for Christmas and the day after, December 26th. The 26th of course is the day Washington takes Trenton. It is often overlooked that there were 2,400 Hessians in Mount Holly that day, and only 1,400 in Trenton. Hessian Captain Johann Ewald said it best in his journal: "Colonel von Donop was led by the nose to Mount Holly by Colonel Griffon, and detained there by love..." If not for Petticoat Bridge Colonel von Donop and his 2,400 men would have been 8 miles from Trenton instead of 18. We think this battle field is very significant. Wouldn't it be great to tour it one day...

Part of our history..

Anyone interested in buying a battlefield, this one is for sale. That's right our very own battlefield right here in Burlington County, and it is for sale and designated for development. We aren't fanatics who rail against development wherever it occurs, but we do think developing this site is a bad idea. This isn't just any old farm in the County, it just happens to be the site of "The Battle of Petticoat Bridge". This battlefield belongs not only to the people of Mansfield and Burlington County, but to the entire country!

Hi! Please post and share the Investigation for 11/9/2019. :0D https://business.facebook.com/events/2049510005150753/
My friend and I spent Sunday morning in the courtyard, me with my camera, and she with her watercolors. Here's what I came up with; it'll look better on Flickr, through the link: https://flic.kr/p/2hpcnUq
What a disappointment to read that the Tea Party event was cancelled. It would have been a worthwhile event for the community to enjoy. It also offered an opportunity to visit the Mansion and would have created a lasting memory with the children.
