‼️NOTICE: Visitor Center Closure‼️

Town Creek Indian Mound NC Historic Site will begin a complete renovation of the visitor center and a major exhibit overhaul in the coming months. It’s going to be amazing!

To fully prepare for the upcoming construction, the site will close the visitor center and gift shop, effective July 28 and until further notice.

Visitors are welcome to take self-guided tours of the grounds, including the mound and reconstructed village site, Tuesday - Saturday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Restrooms will be accessible during operating hours.

What's shaking at Town Creek Indian Mound?
Changes are happening! As some of you may know, Rich Thompson retired after 28 years of service here at Town Creek. His knowledge of the site will be missed, but we hope that he is enjoying much-deserved time off.
-We want to introduce Kevin Melvin as the new manager of Town Creek. With his experience and passion, we are excited to see the changes to come! Help us welcome him to the team!
- We are scheduled to begin construction of our new visitors center in the next few months. We plan to keep everyone updated on the progress, so please stay tuned!

There's a lot to see, do, and learn this weekend in Historic Halifax! You should make plans to check it out as we celebrate the !

It was truly an honor to have members of the Haliwa-Saponi Indian Tribe in attendance at the Historic Halifax ribbon cutting this week, as the land now known as Halifax held significance to the tribe long before the establishment of the town.

To start Day 2 of the Halifax Resolves Days event, all are welcome at a ceremony led by the tribe at the sacred site of Magazine Spring. The ceremony begins at 10 am today (April 11), serving as an important reminder of the presence and contributions of the Haliwa-Saponi, past and present.

Teachers of grades 4–8 are invited to apply for "Teaching on Native Land: Exploring the Living Histories of Indigenous North Carolina," a full day, place-based workshop at Morrow Mountain State Park and Town Creek Indian Mound NC Historic Site. Through immersive site visits, conversations with Indigenous scholars, and hands on teaching activities, participants will explore more than 13,000 years of human history embedded in the Uwharrie region while gaining strategies for presenting accurate, respectful, and culturally responsive Indigenous content in the classroom.

Attendees will receive a $100 stipend, .6 CEUs, private tours, access to new DNCR resources, and opportunities for ongoing collaboration.

Town Creek Indian Mound State Historic Site will be closed to the public on Friday, April 3rd in observance of the holiday.

The Site will reopen on Saturday, April 4th, 9am – 5pm.
Town Creek is closed to the public on Sundays & Mondays.
