Joshua Brookes (1761–1833) was an English anatomist, surgeon, naturalist, and Fellow of the Royal Society who ran a prominent private school of anatomy in London.

Joshua Brookes examined the twins when they arrived in London at Egyptian Hall, Piccadilly, on November 24, 1829, and provided the following statement: “Having seen and examined the two Siamese Youths, Chang and Eng, I have great pleasure in affirming they constitute a most extraordinary Lusus Naturae, the first instance I have ever seen of a double living child. They, being totally devoid of deception, afford a very interesting spectacle, and they are highly deserving of public patronage.”
