The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was made in the 1930s during the turmoil of the Great Depression. At Moundville Archaeological Park, the CCC contributed to many things from erosion control to building the Jones Archaeological Museum.

Join us this Wednesday, June 17 from 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. for a special outdoor storytime at Moundville Archaeological Park and Museum! Our Museum Education Assistant, Erinn Townsend, will be reading 'We Are Grateful: Otsaliheliga' by Cherokee author Traci Sorell, a beautiful story exploring gratitude through the seasons.

Afterward, kids will learn about the Eastern Agricultural Complex and decorate their own flower pot to plant a sunflower seed to take home. Plus, we have the book available for purchase in our gift shop just for this event. We hope to see you there!

What a turnout at Saturday in the Park! Guests of all ages came out to craft their own necklaces with local and trade materials just as they would have been used at Moundville. So great to see our new Park Maintenance Lead, Wayne Cobb, and his son Norris among the crowd!

Join skilled craftsperson Bill Skinner and two site archaeologists on Saturday, June 13 anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to create your own necklace inspired by Moundville's traditions and learn about personal adornment and trade. Catlinite bead necklaces are limited to the first 25 adults.

Start your day with a refreshing movement and stretch on the Moundville lawn! On May 28 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. we'll have an all-levels outdoor class, led by a local instructor, that blends gentle movement with nature. The class features a blend of gentle flow pilates. Bring a yoga mat or towel and join us for a mindful session.
