Renville County Historical Society and Museum It is the mission of RCHS to preserve the history of Renville County including its people, cities & + Research assistance $10 an hour. Bring a picnic lunch.

Admission to the Museum is $5.00 18 & Older, $3.00 6-17 Under 5 years old FREE. The tour includes the research area, the Main Museum and other buildings on the grounds. The research library is available for all to research their Renville County connections. If you want the research to be done by RCHS it is $20 per hour with a minimum of $20. The Museum consists of 6 buildings (only Main Museum open in winter) that tells the history of Renville County, its people, businesses and more. The Museum is right across the street from the Morton City Park. There are also many historical sites to visit when in Morton, MN. Stop by the Museum for your map!

We had a couple today from Lucas, Iowa who were the charter members and creators of the German-American Museum in St. Lucas, Iowa. She had family connections to Troy Township & Olivia through the Kunnen (Kuennen) family, who came from Iowa in 1882, purchased land in Section 9 of Troy Township. By the 1900 plat book publication, they no longer owned the land, and on the 1910 census, they were living in Minneapolis.
It is always a treat when other 'museum-minded' people visit! We are all in the same boat when it comes to small historical societies and museums....aging out. He is 90 years old and still the secretary.
This was their 2nd visit to the Renville County Historical Society and Museum, and they were on their way to look at the land their relatives owned and visit with Barb in the Recorder's Office at the Courthouse in Olivia. She was very curious as to why the family came up and bought the land. Did they have relatives already living in the area? Always interesting questions....sometimes no answers.
