I'm enjoying doing some of these very loose impressionist pieces. The monastery towers on the hill in the distance but it's certainly not the only element in this work.

The trick to viewing pieces like this is to look with your eyes slightly out of focus. You'll begin to see some very interesting things.

What all can you see in this painting?

Another new product I'm excited to work with. Windsor & Newton Professional Acrylic paint. I also picked up some heavy body acrylics. Should allow for some interesting textures.

I call this piece...
"Eroded Valley"
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Board
Size: 8" x 10"

The composition leads you in with the reflection of a small stream winding through a shadowed foreground. This strong contrast sets the stage for the vibrant yellow and oranges on the rocks and cliffs. The smaller rocks on the ground leads the viewer further into the valley. The shadows on the cliffs to the left build a contrast for the muted sky above. I chose to leave the sky soft in order to keep the yellow and oranges strong. A blue sky would have worked as orange is a strong contrast with blues but I felt that blues would have overpowered or at least competed with the landscape. I wanted the cliffs and foreground to be the strongest elements of this piece. The water is the most valuable resource in this piece and in reality as well. So I feel as though the contrasts built are strong and allows the viewer to journey through this arid location.

Here's a few tips about selling art online...

My opinion of the best marketplaces to sell art:

eBay is one of the best overall platforms to sell art on. It's easy and free to set up to sell on eBay. You can give buyers the option of bidding or a buy it now price.

The fees are not too bad on eBay. You can also choose to promote your listings for a small percentage of the selling price when the item sells.

In the sales I've had on eBay, it seems like the buyers own property that they rent out such as an Air BNB. I've also artwork to villages with cabins. In other words, people tend to buy original art to decorate such properties. The types of artwork I've sold are works that feature a peaceful or serene scene when it comes to landscapes.

The pieces were small and fairly affordable priced under a hundred dollars.

This is just one example of how I was able to find a niche that worked for me and my style.

The important message overall is to take a look at your artwork. Try to picture where it would fit in and try to include as many keywords in your listing that would put your listing in the search results.

The titles of listings are fairly limited but the description and product specifics are quite generous when it comes to the amount of words they allow. Put it all to use. The more keywords you can include in a description the better.

Create, create, create. The more listings you have, the more likely customers will see your work. All platforms reward frequent and consistent activity. Keep all your social media buzzing. Cross promote your eBay on Facebook and Instagram.

My next post will be about how to grow your social media followers...
