Did you know Morgan Hill had three early grammar schools in the downtown area?

Morgan Hill's first grammar school was built in 1894 on 4th Street (where Kelly Brewing Company stands today).

As the community grew, a second school opened next door in 1907 and was later sold to the Morgan Hill Grange Association around 1923.

Morgan Hill's third and most enduring downtown school was built in 1922 at what is now the Community & Cultural Center, serving the community for 66 years before closing in 1988. The building was later moved to Llagas Road, where it is now home to Stratford School – Morgan Hill.

Many Morgan Hill residents are transplants from San Jose. Here’s an AI enhanced photo of San Jose looking south along Monterey Highway, aka, El Camino Real, circa 1936.

That’s Oakhill Cemetery on the right. Founded in 1847, Oakhill is the oldest secular cemetery in California.

We were honored to welcome the return of Diana Murphy Hill to her home at Villa Mira Monte last night! She was accompanied by Catherine Murphy Dunne, Sada Coe, and Virginia Mae Days. You may know them today as Carol Holzgrafe, Marilyn Pifer, Margo Hinnenkamp, and Yvonne Beltran.

These remarkable women shared many of their life experiences that helped shape Morgan Hill, with presentations that were fun, inspiring, and educational.

The event was hosted by AAUW of Morgan Hill in celebration of Women's Week and Morgan Hill's 120th Anniversary.
