Moose Lake Area Historical Society and Fires of 1918 Museum The Museum is closed for the season. Open May 29th. Soo Line Event Center is open for rentals. Follow us for Special Events.

Do not miss this historic depot and museum. Read and hear impressive fire survivors interviews. The Fires of 1918 was the largest natural disaster in MN history and the 2nd largest fire disaster in the Nation, called 'the forgotten fire' because of ongoing WWI. Over 1,500 sq mi, 4,089 homes and 35 towns burned causing over 450 deaths in 5 counties from Pine Co on the south of Lake Superior to north of Duluth. We also have our Depot Event Center available for: wedding, family reunions, birthday parties, baby showers, retirement parties, funerals and so much more.... Kitchen available. HISTORY'S MYSTERY: WHO IS THIS SOLDIER? 🇺🇸

A face from the past. A uniform that tells a story. But a name that's been lost to time.

Years ago, this photograph was donated to the Moose Lake Area Historical Society. Unfortunately, it arrived without a name, a date, or any information about the young man pictured.

Now, our archivists are hoping YOU can help solve the mystery!

Here's what we've discovered from his uniform:

🇺🇸 World War II U.S. Army soldier

⭐ 5th Armored Division — His shoulder patch appears to identify him as a member of this division, which fought its way across Europe during World War II.

🎖️ Corporal's stripes — His sleeve insignia indicates the rank of corporal.

🔎 There are other small details on his uniform that may offer additional clues.

But the biggest question remains:

WHO IS HE?

Was he from Moose Lake? Did his family live in the surrounding area? Could his photograph be tucked away in someone else's family album?

Somewhere, someone may recognize this face.

We're asking our community to take a good look, share this photograph, and help us give this young soldier his name back.

If you recognize him, have a possible lead, or know a family with ties to the 5th Armored Division, please tell us in the comments or contact the Moose Lake Area Historical Society.

Every clue matters. Even a small detail could solve a mystery that's been waiting decades for an answer.
