The Fires of 1918 was the largest natural disaster in MN history and the 2nd largest fire disaster in the Nation, called 'the forgotten fire' because of ongoing WWI. Over 1,500 sq mi, 4,089 homes and 35 towns burned causing over 450 deaths in 5 counties from Pine Co on the south of Lake Superior to north of Duluth. Want to hear more of the area's history? Join the MLAHS on July 9 for a program on the Point Douglas Superior Military Road, a ghost in our past. Brief annual meeting at 5:00, Spagetti Dinner at 5:45 (Free will offering) and historical program at 6:00. The evening will end with a musical program from the Belles of La Belle, directed by James Sheetz.

COMMUNITY NOTICE. Someone removed the this original Military Road sign from it's original post. We will not claim theft. You know who you are. This roadsign belongs in its original home, or in the Moose Lake Historical Society area museum. We are trying to share history, not covet it for personal fullfillment.
