👁️‍🗨️ Don't miss this chance to witness the beauty of "Dan Jones: Changing Seasons" before it bids farewell on Sunday 7 January.

🎨 About the Artist:
Born and raised in Fargo, ND, Dan Jones found his artistic calling after a transformative encounter with a Picasso retrospective in 1980. His journey led him through North Dakota State University, the University of Minnesota, and back to NDSU, where he delved into art history, researched Old Masters painting techniques, and found love with his future wife, Julia.

Dan's distinctive style is showcased in panoramic oil paintings, characterized by bold brushstrokes and rhythmic patterns of color, creating atmospheric and expressive visual masterpieces. His regional subject matter often resonates with emotions tied to the northern plains.

After exploring the western and southwestern United States, Dan settled in Minneapolis, MN, before returning to Fargo in 1992. Devoting himself exclusively to his craft, he became a prominent figure in the arts community.

Enjoy Dan's exhibit and all of our displays from 1 to 5 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. and be inspired by his remarkable creations.

You're invited to Coffee and Critique with Guest Critic, Ms. Anna Lee! ☕

Join The Rourke Saturday, January 13, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for Coffee and Critique, an informal monthly community critique for bouncing ideas off your fellow artists and gaining fresh perspective from others in and outside of your own discipline. Bring your unfinished work and mull it over. Or simply pull up a chair for coffee and fellowship with the artistic community. This month, Ms. Ann Lee will serve as our guest critic to guide conversation and share insights.

About Ms. Anna Lee:

As a producer, designer, artist, medium, beekeeper, and creativity coach, Ms. Anna Lee has helped artists of all genres expand their creative endeavors for over twenty years. Currently, she’s blended her talents to offer Creative Guidance Sessions for folks on the verge of a shift or expansion in their creative practice or career.

Foundationally, she works in the fashion industry as a designer, trend forecaster, textile designer, and technical designer- depending on what her clients need. She also produces multidisciplinary collaborations with creatives who want to “play” in their fields via the Gray Matter Series, teaches workshops on creativity + nature, and facilitates evolutionary community building through events at her studio/gallery/apiary: The Arthouse.

This event is free and open to all media and all career stages. We look forward to seeing you at The Rourke!

📅 Date: Thursday, 11 January, 2024
🕕 Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

🎙️ Program Schedule:
6:00 p.m. - Doors Open
6:30 p.m. - Lecture

About the Speaker:
Emily Selove (PhD 2012, UCLA) is an associate professor in Medieval Arabic Language and Literature at the University of Exeter. She is also the convener of the University of Exeter’s Centre for Magic and Esotericism.

Her most recent publication is a short monograph for the Cambridge Elements Series: The Donkey King: Asinine Symbology in Ancient and Medieval Magic. She was the PI of a Leverhulme-funded research project, "A Sorcerer's Handbook," (2019-2022) which will create an edition and translation of Sirāj al-Dīn al-Sakkākī's (d. 1229) magic handbook, Kitāb al-Shāmil wa-baḥr al-kāmil (The Book of the Complete).

Her early research focused on the figure of the uninvited guest (or "party-crasher") in medieval Arabic literature, and especially on the 11th-century work Ḥikāyat Abī l-Qāsim. Her translation of another 11th-century book of party-crashing is titled Selections from the Art of Party-Crashing in Medieval Iraq. She also co-authored a textbook to introduce beginning students to the city of medieval Baghdad, Baghdad at the Centre of a World: 8th-13th Century, and has created a collection of cartoons titled Popeye and Curly: 120 Days in Medieval Baghdad to accompany this textbook.

🎉 This event is part of our third annual Lecture on the History of Art & Design in Honor of Barbara Crawford Glasrud. It's an opportunity to celebrate the intersection of magic, art, and history.
