Don't miss the latest Main Gallery lecture, From Noblewoman Poet to Modern Girl Feminist: Female Artistic Agency in Japan and Korea, with art historian Dr. Susan Lee, this Thursday (July 13) at 6:00 p.m.
Dr. Lee's talk will trace her journey exploring models of female artistic agency in the aesthetic traditions of East Asia. From the 9th-century-world of Japanese classical poetry to the scene of modern feminism in colonial-era Korea, she will introduce you to four notable artists, Ono no Komachi (b.825), Hwang Jin-i (1506-1567), Na Hye-seok (1896-1948), and Wang Su-bok (1917-2003), women who lived very different lives but are connected in unexpected ways.
