Moody Museum at the Crossroads

Moody Museum at the Crossroads A page dedicated to information and updates, on our new museum as we work towards its completion.

04/14/2026

The Moody Museum at the Crossroads is coming together, and we are getting closer to opening our doors this May/June!

We are especially grateful to Coosa Valley RC&D and our state legislators for their support of this project. Their investment has helped fund key exhibit components that will bring Moody’s history to life in a meaningful and engaging way.

Visitors will soon experience:
🖼️ A large interpretive mural showcasing Moody’s history
📱 Interactive digital displays and touchscreen kiosks
🎧 Audio storytelling and mobile-friendly features
🚂 Hands-on exhibits highlighting our community’s roots

While the museum is still under construction, these completed elements are helping lay the foundation for a space that will serve residents, students, and visitors for years to come.

We look forward to welcoming you soon and sharing the story of Moody—past, present, and future.

Stay tuned for opening details!

Here’s an example of one of the fascinating items you can find on display at the Moody Museum. We continue to inch closer and closer to the grand opening.

Fossilized Plant Root Cast
Pennsylvanian Period (approx. 300 million years ago)

This specimen shows a natural sandstone cast of plant root structures preserved within ancient sediments. During the Carboniferous age, large swamp forests covered much of Alabama and surrounding regions. When the roots of trees such as Lepidodendron or Sigillaria decayed, mineral-rich sediments filled the voids, leaving behind detailed impressions.

These root casts provide evidence of the vast coal-forming forests that once dominated the landscape and help paleobotanists understand how prehistoric plants anchored themselves in swampy soils.

Moody Museum is looking for items to display in the museum. If you’re interested in donating items or consigning items to the museum, you can come on Saturday, September 6th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM to drop off your items.

Check your attic, your garage and your closets because you never know where a forgotten treasure might be hiding. Why keep the treasure hidden when it can be displayed in the museum for others to admire and appreciate.
Hope to see you on Saturday!

This afternoon The Moody Museum at the Crossroads hosted our first group of 16 home schooled students through a partnership with the Doris Stanley Memorial Library. They were a great group of kids and parents.
We enjoyed giving them a ‘sneak peek’ of the museum and hope they will come back once the museum is complete and open to the public!
Thank you to Callie Jo and Sarah at the Library for coordinating this visit.

Remember to buy a table for your family, friends or business and come have a fun filled night.Hope to see you there!!
