Sue Stuckey’s wonderful oil paintings will be on display in Capitol Grounds from now until November. Sue is a local painter from Montpelier. She has been painting with oils for much of her life, as time and circumstances have permitted. Her subjects come from the natural world and she often works from photographs taken during travels here in the US and in Europe. She delights in perspective, and strives to draw the observer in to her paintings, and lead them to wonder what is just beyond the horizon. Color and light play an integral part in her work, and provide constant joy and challenge. She has studied with painting groups in the Chicago area, with artists Ann Ponce and Gay Riseborough, and here in Vermont with Sylvia Walker and Linda Hogan at the Montpelier Senior Center. Stop in to see her fine art while enjoying great coffee!

Nitya Brihenti has given us a fine exhibit of both fine paintings and sensitively drawn sketches for us to enjoy in the cafe. He also offered a lovely text that I want to share.

…In the Belpaese where I grew up, people tell stories to their children, stories of artists and saints (aren’t they the same?)
The story of Giotto the young shepherd that drew freehand on a rock a perfect circle…was one of the first I’ve heard.
What Giotto painted in Padua and Assisi remained unmatched. He had such a delicate yet profound way
With humanity and the divine. “There was nothing in nature that Giotto could not depict with his brushes” said Boccaccio, although in his Decameron he cannot resist to portray the shabbiness of the master, who always refused to be called a “maestro”. Title often abused and misused in our depraved time. Even more glory to him then! Example of a wonderful artist, guide for all of us.
Dice Dante nella Divina Comedia:
“Credette Cimabue nella pintura
Tener lo campo ed ora ha Giotto il grido
Si’ che la fama di colui oscura”

Be sure to stop by and enjoy his excellent artwork!
