When master painter Thomas Waterman Wood founded the museum for the citizens of Montpelier, VT in 1895, he had a vision of an institution that would bring the transformative power of art to the people. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday 12:00-4:00pm

The T. Wood Gallery & Arts Center has been an important part of the Montpelier community since 1895 and houses a large permanent collection of the works of T

.W. Wood and many of his artistic colleagues and contemporaries. The Gallery is also the repository for Vermont's portion of the Federal WPA collection. In addition to the permanent collections we have two contemporary gallery spaces featuring rotating exhibits of regional contemporary artists. The Gallery runs a successful Summer Art Camp for youth between the ages of 5-12, a year round After-School Arts programs, and a variety of adult classes. Our gallery is available to rent for community and private events. Wood Gallery mission is to preserve our artistic heritage and to bring the best of today's art to central Vermont.

It is with great sadness that the Trustees of the T.W. Wood Museum acknowledges the death of our longtime friend and fellow trustee, Linda Dean Paradee. Linda was the longest serving trustee in the history of the museum: for just shy of 40 years Linda was a key player in helping the museum survive and thrive.

Invited to be a trustee in 1984, Linda was responsible for two key events in the evolution of the T.W. Wood Museum. She initiated and wrote the museum’s collection policy, which provides guidance on and rules for when and how the museum can sell any part of its art collection. Linda was also responsible for enabling the museum to buy its share of the building at 46 Barre St. in Montpelier, where it has called home since 2016. In addition, Linda and her family were long-time benefactors of the museum, generously donating money that has allowed the Wood to continue to serve the people of Vermont. Linda was particularly interested in helping with the preservation and growth of the permanent collection, helping to fund the creation of a new art storage vault and purchasing original Thomas Waterman Wood artwork for the collection. The T.W. Wood Museum is excited to announce two new contemporary exhibits opening in June, 2026 that celebrate the work of New England artists.

On view in the Nuquist Gallery, Sea Wonders is a joint installation by Vermont-based artists
Carolyn Shapiro and Deb Fleischman celebrating our deep connection to the ocean. 16 vivid textile collages created by Carolyn Shapiro feature the diverse inhabitants of the ocean. Kelpy, an immersive ribbon display created by Deb Fleischman simulates a kelp forest guests can walk through. These combined works form a visual and sensory experience of a world underwater.

Housed in the Contemporary Hall, the T. W. Wood Museum invites artists and the community to enjoy the vibrant and diverse art work by the talented members of the Art Resource Association (ARA) which has been supporting the arts community for over fifty years.

T.W. Wood Museum will be at the Capital City Farmers' Market this Saturday, May 16 as well as next Saturday, May 23 to sell tickets for our Annual T.W. Wood After School Arts Fundraising Raffle! Tickets will also be available for sale at the Hunger Mountain Co-op this Sunday from 3pm - 6pm. Magpie & Tiger and the T.W. Wood Museum will be selling tickets during business hours so be sure to stop by!

All proceeds from this raffle will provide scholarships for our youth programs. Please scan the QR codes on the flyers below to view the prize list and purchase tickets. Please share and spread the word!
