Schuyler County Historical Society, NY The Schuyler County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt educational organization, supported by donations, memberships and grants.

The Schuyler County Historical Society's mission is to preserve and share the materials of the rich history of our county, located in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York State. We have three museums in Montour Falls, NY - the Brick Tavern Museum, the Wickham Rural Life Center and the Lee School Museum - and all are free to visit. Our Research Library is used by researchers from across the nation to learn more about the people, places and events in Schuyler County's history. Under current health and safety guidelines, all visitors are required to wear masks. Groups are limited to six, and the total number of visitors is limited to 10. All visitors, volunteers and staff are required to sign in. Use of the Research Library is by appointment only. Please contact us with any questions at (607) 535-9741 or [email protected].

**** HAPPENING TODAY! ****

The Village of Burdett, announces a special day of programming on September 27, 2026. At 2:00 p.m., Burdett Historian Marty Evans will present “War Journals: Excelsior to Burdett and Beyond.” The talk will be held at the Burdett Fire Hall and is a FREE event, open to everyone. Burdett Historian Marty Evans has spent much of the past year studying the journals of the men who participated in the Sullivan Campaign. Her talk explores their initial reactions to seeing the lands that became Schuyler County, and their impressions of their mission.

At 3 p.m., immediately following the talk, a memorial monument honoring the Haudenosaunee ceremonial high ground the Sullivan Campaign trekked through will be dedicated on the village green located next to Overlook Coffee Co. All are welcome to attend. A short presentation will precede the monument’s dedication.

Join Burdett Historian Marty Evans for a double header Walkin’ History tour this Saturday.

The 10 AM walk focuses on the north side of the village. There will be a break in between so you can pack a picnic lunch, dine at Rasa Chicken or grab a snack from Burdett Exchange. At 1 PM the second walking tour will examine the south side of the village!!

Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. All walking tours happen rain or shine!

The Walkin’ History tours are presented in partnership with the libraries of Schuyler County and the America 250 Schuyler County Commission.
