Our friends at MORE THAN TOURS 2 are kicking off Mothers Day weekend with a live virtual reading of Charly Evon Simpson's Off-Broadway play BEHIND THE SHEET.
The play confronts the history of a great medical breakthrough in 1840s Alabama by telling the forgotten story of a community of enslaved black women who involuntarily enabled the discovery.

"[It} may be a quiet play. But its echoes are thunderous.”

TODAY, on Dec. 5, 1955, a mass meeting was held to officially kick off the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Thousands walked, car pooled, converted their cars to taxis, organized behind the scenes and many were arrested. Today is a day we must never forget. We have FOUR major events today to not only pay homage to our ancestors, but also to create teachable moments about neighborhoods, people and businesses who were resilient and sacrificed for hope during the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Day 2 in Montgomery, Alabama: Debrief with Radical Optimist and a history tour with MORE THAN TOURS 2.

We are home. We are educated. And most importantly, we are empowered to make a difference in the City of YOUngstown.

Together we WILL Elevate Every Entrepreneur.
Coming to Alabama was sure to be an important trip, but to have Michelle (and her wonderful brother Steve) as shepherds -- really the only word I can think of for the work they did -- made it probably the most profound trip I have ever taken in my almost-50 years of life. The details, the stories, the deep thinking that went into what we (I was one of two teachers with a group of 9 HS kids) would experience -- it was singular. For years to come I will write journal entries and essays about the impact the tour had on me. For this particular post, know this: you will be forever changed. History awaits, and Michelle is the best person in Montgomery to take you there.
see you wednesday.
