Wednesday in Tribeca with Professional Practice students from Montclair State. 🍁 So many excellent excellent shows up right now (as the world heaves and lurches along). + lovely gallery owners and minders who were willing to talk to us about viable business models and display methodologies and inventories — the nuts and bolts of actual gallery life. 🙏

I visited Soft Structures on Friday and took a few detail images. Part of my plan with this show was to platform artists who have a direct engagement with technique and materials. I’m so excited about this work. 🖤

This is a bit of a latergram. I managed to see the beautiful Nanette Carter exhibition curated by Mary Birmingham at the Montclair Art Museum on its very last day. Formally near perfect and also very moving. An unusual combination.

Atlanta dispatch 🍑🍑

I was so excited to visit a visionary program called , where Soft Structures artist Zipporah Camille Thompson has representation. Director Susan Bridges maintains three exhibition spaces (!) and a sculpture garden. I was moved by this installation in the ShedSpace by Eve Brown. Her response to materiality and light and environment is on point. ✨

In the meantime, search up Zipporah’s work if you’re not already familiar. I’ll be posting like crazy as soon as we have photography. Her work for the show is

Whoah. The most beautiful new object by Leah Tacha, “Windy Hair.” Ceramic with digital decals and glaze and paper insert.

It is filling my heart watching so many artists post pictures of their babies and children — in this case fully incorporating one into the work. When I was 35 and having my first kid, the only artist who made me feel like I was not completely out of my mind was Kirsten Hassenfeld, last slide, who told me not to worry if I wasn’t able to breast-feed. This was the only actually worthwhile advice I got during this time. I’m happy to spare you some of the things other people said to me. Anyway, now that baby shaves his beard and drives a car so that’s crazy.

I’m having a corny moment I’ve just feeling all the feelings for all the painters and sculptures and makers out there who are doing both so effortlessly and keeping it all cool.

And and who unwittingly accompany me on my journey. 🙏🙏🖤

When I was at ‘s studio yesterday I finally got to flip through the new book! It is so beautiful, and I was thrilled to see that she included a few of the wonderful artists i’ve worked with over the years.

Congratulations Melissa, Elizabeth, Zach, Jonathan, and Lena. The book is beautiful.

The last two slides are Lindsay Degen, who I’ve never worked with, but I did make one of her hole sweaters for my mom this spring after seeing it at Vogue Knitting live!! The pattern was being worn by Steph who makes the most wonderful yarn 🖤🐏 and my friend and I both bought the pattern in the yarn right away. It is the greatest sweater design I’ve ever seen in my entire life lol truly.
