Monmouth Mining and Manufacturing was the first major Pottery in Monmouth. 1872-1920. They produced many industrial products including sewer pipes, field tile, well covers , bricks and pavers. Wow…The great reputation and also the news about the great stoneware collection of the Stoneware Museum of Monmouth, IL is really getting around! This is so gratifying and we want to thank everyone for touring and spreading the word about the museum. As of this past Saturday, August 8th, wonderful people from **😳(See Edit below!) 26 (yes, 26) states have traveled to Monmouth, IL to visit a little bit of history. Here is the alphabetical countdown: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois (😉), Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and, last but not least, Wisconsin! Last year, (2025) we reached 19 states!
If you are reading this and have not been to our museum, please come visit! You will learn of Monmouth history and see quite a few “pounds of pottery”. We are open for tours on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm or any other day by appointment only. (Remember, the 2026 Stoneware Museum tour season ends the last Saturday of October which happens to be 🧙😈💀👻🎃!!!) If Saturdays don’t work, give Ray Brinkmann a call at 309-255-1939 to schedule a date and time to visit! We would love to see you!!💚💚

Western Stoneware was created in 1906 with the acquisition of 7 different potteries. In the early years, each pottery put their plant number in the maple leaf logo.
