G Rose Studios Gregory J. Rose is a prolific creative: a painter and educator based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Rose is an East Coast native transplanted in the Midwest.

Formally educated at The Pennsylvania State University, Gregory received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000, and received his Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota in 2004—both with a concentration in Drawing and Painting. Gregory has been an Arts educator since 2003. Gregory has exhibited locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Namely known as a painter,

Gregory J. Rose has been a creative force working in Art Education, Music, and a lengthy history with his contributions in the Voice Over field. Gregory is known for his work within Community Engagement-locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Including-Gregory’s curatorial practices-Curating “Change is God: Root Among the Stars, Black Abstraction in the Midwest; held at Soo Visual Arts Center in Minneapolis, MN, in addition to serving on curatorial boards, and his participation within private and community art organizations.

“Follow The River” is oil paint marker and acrylic on paper, started in 2004 and finished in 2026. Black paint layered thick across the entire surface, red vertical marks cutting through, flashes of yellow-green at the lower left corner, evoking urgency and unrest.

“Heavy Rains” started in 2004 and I called it finished in 2026. Blue and green acrylic pushed and layered across canvas, the left side dense with cobalt and copper, the right side fading into dark olive and grey, evoking melancholy and motion.

“Procession” has been with me since 2004. Deep brick red and black oil paint built up across the canvas, white marks rising vertically through the surface, flecks of blue scattered through the lower half, evoking solemnity and memory.

“The Tide” has been in my studio since 2004. Blue, teal, and black acrylic across the canvas, a pale horizontal band cutting through the lower third, yellow-green at the top edge, evoking endurance and quiet.

This one has been with me for over twenty years. “Beach At Night” is ready for a new home.

Warm terracotta and dark charcoal in heavy, slow shapes, a white slash cutting through the center, evoking weight and tension.

“Fishing” started in 2002. It is the oldest piece in this series, ink on paper, burnt orange and cool grey with blue drips running vertical, evoking imbalance and anticipation.

Every broken story, every shed piece of yourself, every scar and bruise and relationship that didn’t make it…that’s not the tragedy, that’s the material. How you reconstruct and integrate those pieces, those fragments, back together…well, that’s a beautiful life.

I’m proud to introduce to you my latest collection:
“LOUD AS…”
My summer series.

This series is a collection of smaller, fragmented work that hasn’t been integrated into larger pieces.

These pieces are fun, small, original artworks that can be placed almost anywhere. I attached magnets to the backs of each piece, then secured it to a painted panel. Hang the panel, or pop the artwork off and place it anywhere magnetic.

If you have a few of these “Loud As…” pieces, you can feel what I feel when I’m composing a signature piece.

The process of bringing in all these separate marks, these fragments of work, to create a new piece is evident across my entire body of work.

Mix and match the fragments on your fridge to create your own G Rose composition.

Or add a fragment to your office, your locker, your mirror.

This work is meant to live where you live.

Y’all. Fifteen pieces. Some of these have been living in my studio since 2002, just waiting for the right moment, and that moment is Monday..!

We’re talking $75 to $120, small format, every single one is magnetic. Pop it right off the panel and stick it wherever you want, your fridge, your locker, doesn’t matter. No wall space required.

Collect a few and build your own little arrangement, same way I build mine. This is what I’ve been saying: art isn’t just supposed to sit there collecting dust waiting to be worth something. It’s supposed to be in your life, where you actually live.

“Street Academics” is a 36x80 inch repurposed door built from sketchbooks spanning my entire academic career, cut apart and reconstructed into one of the most defining works of my practice. Black, white, and natural wood. Stripped back to let the structure speak.

This piece has shown at a solo retrospective spanning twenty years of my work, a studio visit with the Weisman Art Museum, and Concordia Saint Paul. It is a signature work and it will not be repeated.

The collectors who’ve built the most meaningful relationships with my work didn’t arrive knowing exactly what they wanted. They arrived curious with a general sense that something about the work speaks to them, and they wanted to feel it in person.

A studio visit with me is curated from before you walk in. I ask about the room where the work will live, like the lighting, the furniture, the colors, the feeling of the space. I ask about budget openly and without judgment, because the right piece exists at every level. My job is to find it for you, not to sell you what’s most expensive. I’ll have refreshments ready. We spend time with the work that actually fits your life.

This week I’m available in two ways.

“Triple Dipped Purple Wizards” is on view at NE Sculpture | Gallery Factory through May 31, as part of the Continuum Alumni Exhibition. Go experience it in the space if you haven’t yet.
