The Stevens Square Center for the Arts (SSCA) is an artist-run nonprofit community arts center located in the heart of Stevens Square, the most densely populated neighborhood in Minneapolis. The Stevens Square Center for the Arts provides affordable artist work studios; hosts regular art exhibits; and works to stabilize the Stevens Square neighborhood by serving as a community center that puts mor

e “eyes on the street.”

SSCA was formed in 2003 as a partnership between the Stevens Square Community Organization (SSCO), JAS Apartments, and two-dozen Minneapolis artists looking to turn a vacant commercial space into a community asset. After extensive renovations, the SSCA has transformed a former police sub-station into 5,500 square feet of gallery and studio space. The organization is run entirely by volunteers, and is overseen by a board of directors. Since late 2003, SSCA has been an independent organization, and is no longer affiliated with JAS Apartments. SSCA received its 501 (c) (3) status in 2006.
