For the past six months, faculty member Anne Labovitz has been working virtually with 18 art students across Minnesota to give them a high-level art experience.

The mentorship program, a partnership between Labovitz and Art in Motion on the Lake Wobegon Trail, has culminated in an exhibition at Art in Motion featuring artwork created by the students. Throughout the program, students focused not so much on their art technique with Labovitz, but the way they talk about and portray their art.

Labovitz has also been creating her own work, inspired by her experience with the students. Her exhibit opens in the Art in Motion space May 8.

Excited to be a part of this residency.

We're excited to welcome Anne Labovitz to the MFA mentor pool! Labovitz recently participated in 122 Conversations at MSP airport:
“122 Conversations: Person to Person, Art Beyond Borders is an artist-led project based on the art of engagement — art derived from the process of interconnection and cross-cultural dialogue. Organized by the Tweed Museum of Art and in collaboration with Duluth Sister Cities, International and University of Minnesota Duluth, School of Fine Arts, the project celebrates the combined 122 years of relationship with Duluth’s five sister cities: Rania, Iraqi Kurdistan, Växjö, Sweden, Petrozavodsk, Russia, Thunder Bay, Canada and Ohara Isumi-City, Japan. The project is a catalyst for positive social change, one individual at a time.”
