Sketching with ball point pen. The process of making these drawings is an experience I enjoy so much from the initial gesture to the refined “finished” drawing.

👋🏼Hi everyone! I’ve been on a hiatus from social media for the past I don’t know how long🤔, but it’s been a while. I am very happy🎉 to announce I’ve graduated 👨🏼‍🎓with an M.F.A. in 🎨from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design . The last couple✌🏼 of years have been memorable for many reasons. My wife and I found out we were having a baby 👶🏻before my first day of graduate school. I couldn’t have asked for a better start of this amazing adventure. My wife has been the pillar to our family throughout graduate school. The countless nights she would stay with our son while I would painted away at the studios until the wee hours of the morning. She sacrificed so much for our family while I attended graduate school. I couldn’t have done this without her, I’m extremely lucky to call her my wife. My parents are another key ingredient to this whole picture. Their encouragement and support have always made me feel as if I can do anything. They are who I look up to for parenting. Last but not least my mentor has been instrumental with my development in the program. From the first moment I met him I knew I wanted to work with him. Our conversations were a highlight for me every time we met. He pushed and challenged me to be a better artist every day. I will forever be grateful for his mentorship and friendship. It feels good to be done and graduated. I’m excited to be a husband and a father again, and hopefully sleep a little more.

🔬Here’s a more in depth step by step of my latest 👹 I’ll post shortly. I start with a using a soft vine for this stage. Then I start moving from shape to shape articulating their forms and placements. Once the drawing is complete I start to re draw it with using a dry technique to retrace the lines. Once all the charcoal lines are covered with oils I start the with raw umber and titanium white with a little liquin medium.

🙏🏼Here’s the completed ! I had a lot of fun 💥with this one experimenting with different mediums and styles. I had the pleasure of interviewing Nick getting to know his diverse background and what it means to him being 🇵🇷in today’s society. How his is constructed through his culture and family.
