Brittnie Christophersen and Cameron Bussell have been volunteering at the museum 2 Fridays a month for the past several months. Brittnie is a 2023 graduate of Mineola High School. Her family has lived in Mineola since the 1930’s, connecting her fascination with Mineola history. She is currently studying Kinesiology at UT Tyler in hopes of becoming an Occupational Therapist. Cameron is also a 2023 graduate of Mineola High School. His family first came to Wood County in the mid 1800’s. He is passionate about history, music, volunteering and giving back to his community. He is currently a student at UT Tyler in his 4th year of studying music. They both enjoy stepping back in time to enjoy all of the stories the museum has to offer. They watch a little Casablanca showing in the Select Theater exhibit and Brittnie checked out the 1920’s ticket machine. Cameron our music major inspected and powered up the old Hammond organ donated by Jean Mabe and a fun discovery Brittnie found her great grandfather’s Post Office box. A few historical boxes are still available for purchase engraved with your name on it. Even while balancing college classes and work schedules, two young volunteers are giving their time to serve their community and make history fun and meaningful for everyone who visits. The museum hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 to 3:00. For more information call 903-569-2631. Stop in either the second or fourth Friday and say hi to Brittnie and Cameron!

Josh Kirk and Mary Fritz stopped by the museum today from Van, Texas and we had WAY too much fun. They were very complimentary of the museum and genuinely enjoyed finding out about Mineola’s history. Josh was especially intrigued by our 1937 Postal Inspector’s surveillance observation deck - an actual hidden hideout that could be secretly accessed from the basement through a shaft to the third floor. So, naturally, we had to stage a little reenactment. Thanks for stopping by, Josh and Mary! We loved having you both-and Josh we’re glad you made it out. 😊

Just a note: These photos were staged for fun. Visitors are not allowed in the observation area.

Our wonderful docent Gloria was pleasantly surprised when her grandson, Scott, and his wife, Adriana, from Dallas, dropped by the museum. Adriana’s mother joined them as well, and they thoroughly enjoyed their visit. It was a great day for Gloria.
