Additional Welcome Weekend tours:

Frank Lloyd Wright Trail Welcome Weekend is coming up May 15–17, and our friends at Monona Terrace are offering additional tours as part of the celebration. It’s a great opportunity to explore Wright’s “dream civic center” and his lasting imprint on the project.

📅 Lecture: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Bogk House — A Bold Experiment in Milwaukee

Join Professor Emeritus Richard L. Cleary for a lecture examining Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1916 Bogk House and its place within Wright’s work during this period.

Cleary will discuss the Bogk House in the context of Wright’s evolving architectural ideas, including his use of ornament inspired by non‑Western sources. The talk also highlights the Bogk family’s role in early 20th‑century Milwaukee and how their commission provided Wright with an opportunity for experimentation.

The lecture looks at three major developments that shaped this resurgence:
• the Elvehjem Museum’s 1988 exhibition on Wright and Madison
• the long‑awaited approval to construct Monona Terrace
• the creation of Taliesin Preservation in Spring Green

Drawing on archival materials, interviews, and contemporary news coverage, Andrzejewski traces the people, institutions, and cultural forces that helped bring Wright back into public focus decades after his death.

✨ Big news from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Burnham Block! ✨
We’re excited to share that a major restoration project is about to begin on our historic American System-Built Homes Model C3 bungalow.

This important work is made possible through a Save America’s Treasures grant from the National Park Service, with generous support from the Barbara Meyer Elsner Foundation, the Herzfeld Foundation, and contributions from more than 100 individual donors. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring this vision to life!

As many in the Wright community know, a little over three months ago Frank Lloyd Wright’s Burnham Block lost Barbara Meyer Elsner—an esteemed member of our Advisory Board and a long-time member of our Board of Directors.

In June, Barbara gifted us a remarkable handcrafted copper desk set created by Elbert Hubbard’s Roycrofters Workshops. Founded in 1895, the Roycrofters were celebrated for their furniture, metalwork, printing, and writing, and by 1915 they were producing finely crafted desk sets. Objects like this beautifully situate Wright’s American System-Built Homes within the broader context of the early twentieth-century Arts and Crafts movement. It is likely that Barbara’s desk set dates from this period.

Barbara was present for its installation in the B1 bungalow, ensuring it was placed with care and security. Her thoughtful guidance and generosity made this moment especially meaningful. We remain deeply grateful to Barbara for this invaluable gift and for her lasting contributions to the Burnham Block and the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright.
