While the gallery is closed for summer, director Heidi Leitzke is visiting museums, conducting research and getting inspired for future exhibitions and curatorial projects.

Here she is looking at one of Hilma af Klint’s paintings ‘Yellow Star-of-Bethlehem’ April 24-30, 1919, watercolor, pencil, and ink on paper, in the exhibition ‘What Stands Behind the Flowers’ at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The exhibition presents 46 watercolor paintings of flowers, plants and a few insects. Alongside the nature studies, af Klimt painted tiny abstractions and wrote her description of “what stands behind the flowers”.
It is a really special show and we hope you get to see it, or some other art this summer.

Artist Samantha Sanders creates paintings with ink, that she makes herself, from foraged materials such as black walnut, goldenrod and onion peels. We were happy to host her on campus this week, where she introduced our students to her ink making process. She brought ink samples for us and shared her recipes at the workshops. Thank You Sam! .art
