“Overgrown L.A.” by Kirkland Bray — on display at J. Nunez Gallery, Summit.

A layered landscape where nature feels exaggerated, cinematic, and almost imagined. Palm trees, cypress silhouettes, dense textures, and saturated California light come together in a composition that sits somewhere between observation and memory.

What makes this piece work especially well in person is the contrast between the calm blue sky and the amount of movement and detail hidden inside the foliage. The closer you get, the more the painting reveals itself.

54 x 60 in.
Original artwork.

Why do you think some people can live without art?

Is it because they don’t need visual inspiration?
Because they see art as luxury instead of necessity?
Or because they’ve never connected with the right piece?

Curious to hear real opinions on this.

WHAT DOES YOUR ART STUDIO LOOK LIKE? — NEW SERIES!

Every week, we step inside the studio of one of the artists represented by J. Nunez Gallery.

We show the space. We ask three fixed questions. And one final question that stays the same.

This week: Erin Garrity-Duffey

The first thing I do when I go into my ‘studio’ is organize the space with the materials I’ll be using. I like taking the time to intentionally set-up my supplies and space, it’s an essential part of my process.

Next week, a different studio.

A porcelain plate.
A butterfly.
A sculpture.
A painting.

Victor Manuel Guerra’s new Porcelain Butterflies series blends the elegance of antique porcelain aesthetics with the delicacy and transformation of butterflies — creating pieces that exist somewhere between painting, object, and sculpture.

In this new work, the glossy varnished plate contrasts beautifully with the fully three-dimensional butterfly emerging from its surface. The result is a layered piece where texture, light, shadow, and color all shift depending on where you stand.

Soft lavenders, pale blues, cream tones, and subtle gold accents give the piece a refined but contemporary presence, while the sculptural butterfly adds depth and movement that photographs can’t fully capture.

Now on display at J. Nunez Gallery in Summit.

New window display at our Millburn location featuring two new works by Kevin Andrew.

A new series that moves somewhere between abstraction and floral elements without fully becoming either one. Dark, atmospheric backgrounds layered with sharp gestures, soft textures, and sudden pops of color that almost feel suspended in motion. Elegant, expressive, and difficult to categorize in the best way possible.

Both pieces are 60x48.
