Before Lorden Plaza, there was Lorden Lumber.
This 1982 photograph shows one of the large Lorden Lumber buildings that once stood along the south side of Nashua Street, between today’s McDonald’s and Ocean State Job Lot. For generations, the Lorden name was closely tied to Milford’s business community and daily life. By the 1980s, all of the Lorden lumber buildings had either burned or been demolished, making way for the shopping plaza many residents know today.
How many remember visiting the lumber yard or seeing these buildings before they disappeared?
Join the Milford Historical Society on June 11th at Town Hall for Namesakes of Milford, an evening program exploring the stories behind Milford’s familiar names, businesses, places, and families that helped shape our town’s history.
