WaterWorks Art Museum is pleased to share this post from Linda McCray. We will be sharing more images of her works and the amazing works of co-exhibitors Jim Linnell and Dennis Eddlemon in the coming weeks.

"Passion to Pentecost” is my most well-known painting. It has been published internationally and exhibited widely. It is currently on exhibit at WaterWorks Art Museum, Miles City, Montana.

It was a joy sharing stories behind my abstract spiritual original paintings; using “Passion to Pentecost” as an example of a few of my techniques and symbolism; and hearing your thoughtful questions during my artist talk

In “Passion to Pentecost,” I symbolized five wounds with the abstract element of red drips of paint; resurrection with gold drips upward; and the event of Pentecost with a few white brushstrokes evoking a dove and the color red flaming down from above. Often old story-telling altarpieces lost panels and were restored with different found sections, thus the panels of this painting are designed to look randomly placed. The triptych format of three panels is a symbol for the Trinity, which came to be on Pentecost. This 72 x 114 x 2 in. abstract spiritual painting is available.

THANK YOU for a wonderful “Fall Extravaganza” Opening Reception! If you missed Friday’s reception, there is still time to experience the exhibit. The artwork will remain on view through November 12.

WaterWorks Art Museum staff and board members thank everyone who supported the museum at the Art Auction held September 26. We are grateful to the artists, visitors, and especially our sponsors, First Interstate Bank and Miles City Kiwanis. Great art, delicious food, and beautiful music made the evening memorable.

The auction raised more than $27,000. The top-selling work was Billings, Montana, artist Larry Bean’s photograph “Icon,” which brought the night’s highest bid of $1,250. Fellow Billings artist Lance Johnson’s watercolor painting “Backwater’s Sunrise” sold for $975.

The two highest-selling stoneware pieces were Minot ND potter Jim Bailey’s “Big Kahuna Vase,” which sold for $875, and “The Patriot,” a collaborative work by Miles City artists Jerry Fischer, Jacob Klamm, and Travis Stinson, which sold for $750.

The beautiful weather and lively auction helped create a fun evening for all. We thank everyone who played a part in making the event special and successful.
