The Museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and has spent more than 50 years serving the Midland and West Texas communities by producing exhibitions, programs and events about art, archaeology, history and science. The

Museum of the Southwest is comprised of the Turner Memorial Art Museum, Marian Blakemore Planetarium, Fredda Turner Durham Children's Museum, and a public sculpture collection. All-campus admission of $10 for adults, $5 for children gains entrance to Turner Memorial Art Museum, Marian Blakemore Planetarium, and Fredda Turner Durham Children's Museum.

SeptemberFest is just around the corner, and we want you to know the artists before you arrive. 🎨

Meet five of the 50+ acclaimed artists joining us September 11-13:

Introducing Space SH!P with David 🚀

Led by David Lasater, Director of the Blakemore Planetarium, Space SH!P with David is your twice-a-month ticket to exploring what’s happening above us—from the latest celestial events to the space questions you’ve always wanted answered.

At the beginning of each month, David will break down what’s happening in space that month:

What to look for in the night sky
Upcoming astronomical events
What’s happening right here at the Blakemore Planetarium.

Then, midway through the month, we’ll dive into your most sought-after space questions, tackle fascinating topics, and even debunk a few space myths along the way.

And we want YOUR space questions to help steer the Space SH!P!

What does the American West mean to us today? 🤠

J.C. Spock's ([.art]"The West Reimagined" is more than a look back; it's a question she's asking through every piece in this collection.

Old rodeo photos from 1940s Midland, weathered receipts, newspaper clippings... she weaves real American history into her work to show how the spirit of this land has carried forward into who we are now.

Is the West about the land? The grit? The stories passed down through generations? Spock lets you sit with that question as you move through her pieces, each one layered with "easter eggs" that connect past to present.

It's history and art colliding in the best way, and it's on display right here in Midland.

Two weeks until SeptemberFest fills the Museum campus with original art, music, conversation and creative fun.

Every festival ticket includes full Museum admission that day — GIANT by Ken Womack, The West Reimagined by J.C. Spock, our 60th Anniversary Collection, dome shows, and magic acts all included.

Friday: Shop first at the Preview Art Party.

Saturday: Make a full day of artists, KinderFest, and Museum experiences.

Sunday: Return for final selections and the last day of GIANT.

The art will be one of a kind. Your weekend should be, too.

SeptemberFest is for the whole family, including the littlest art lovers!

KinderFest, presented by the Anwar Family, is part of both days of SeptemberFest and gives kids their own dedicated space to create, explore, play, and make something they’ll want to bring home. Most KinderFest activities are included with festival admission, so there’s no separate ticket required—just extra fun!

A variety of community partners will be on campus to make KinderFest extra special. Some will join us both Saturday and Sunday, while others will participate for one day only, so there will be something different to discover throughout the weekend.

Bring the kids. Let them make their mark.

Alright, humans!

I’ve gathered quite a bit of intelligence, but apparently a proper SeptemberFest guide needs input from people who have actually been there.

So before I close the file, I’m taking final submissions.

SeptemberFest runs September 11–13, beginning with Preview Party on Friday and continuing through the weekend, with KinderFest joining the festivities Saturday and Sunday.

Now tell me what deserves a spot in the guide: Is there an artist you never miss? A food you wait all year for? A KinderFest favorite? A community partner everyone should visit? A tradition, memory, or piece of advice every first-timer needs to know?
