The Middletown Valley Historical Society was delighted to host a presentation by Tawn O’Connor, owner of Heritage Book and Bible Repair, on March 8. The program was part of MVHS’s monthly speaker series celebrating the rich history of the Middletown Valley.
We sincerely appreciate Ms. O’Connor for sharing her expertise, experiences, and stories about the craft of book and Bible restoration. We also appreciate the coverage of the event by Ryan Marshall in the March 9th edition Frederick News-Post.

Our April speaker will be Jody Brummage, Archivist and Museum Manager for Heritage Frederick (the Historical Society of Frederick County), and President, Historian, and Curator of the South Mountain Heritage Society in Burkittsville. His presentation, “Revolutionary Times in Burkittsville: Roots of Liberty and the Fight for Equality in a Rural Maryland Town,” will take place:

The Middletown Valley Historical Society presents, Jefferson Street: Early African American History and Community Life

Sunday, February 8th, 2026 from 2-3pm in the social room at Zion Lutheran Church

To commemorate African American History month, Julie Maynard, former editor of the Valley Citizen newspaper, will be speaking about African American history in Middletown. The talk will focus on Jefferson Street, Middletown’s other Main Street, a few of its former residents and their memories of the African American community during the 1900s.
