EAGLE UPDATE:
Thank you so much to this amazing community for your outpouring of support for the 11 bald eagles admitted to The Raptor Center for intensive treatment following the probable pentobarbital poisoning.
While one eagle very sadly did not survive, we are excited to report that the 10 remaining eagles in our care have recovered from the initial suspected poisoning event. However, many are still being treated for problems such as aspiration pneumonia that developed while they were severely sedated from the toxin. A number of them also came to us with other ailments including lead poisoning and soft tissue injuries, which they are continuing to receive treatment for in our specialized hospital.
While these birds still have a long journey ahead of them back to full health, we are optimistic in their progress and so thankful for the support of their care by this community. We will continue to provide updates so you can follow along with their recovery journey.
This extremely sad event is another reminder that we, as humans, can and must do better. All too often, our doctors are treating birds that enter our clinic as a result of human-caused, completely preventable illnesses and injuries. Together, we can help protect the lives of not just raptors, like bald eagles, but the environment that we all share together.
