Merrill Historical Society Inc

Merrill Historical Society Inc The Merrill Historical Society is committed to helping individuals of the Merrill area and elsewhere engage in the past in new and exciting ways, fostering partnerships, mutual growth and learning about the past, the present and the future.
We are a group of volunteers who enjoy learning about and studying the past. Whether it's Rangers or River Rates, floods or fires, milliners or millionaires, trolleys or trains, you'll find someone in the Society who is interested in researching these and many other topics using our extensive collection of Blue Books, City Directories, high school yearbooks, and historic photos and postcards.

Just for fun I thought I'd post this picture from 1931 to see how they thought we should clear the snow from the roads.

You may have noticed that our sign is missing. Don't worry, the Historical Society is still here and open for all your local historical needs.
The sign is missing because last week an allegedly (now we're all legal) drunk driver came through and ran down our sign. With the ground frozen we can't dig a new post, so we probably won't be able to get a sign up any time soon.
While we aren't thrilled to learn that our sign can't stand up to a speeding car, we are happy it wasn't worse (the middle school is across the street, slow down people).

For those of you that missed the articles about us in the Courier and Foto News, our Christmas display is up and open to the public. Also, we're only closed Christmas day and New Year's day so we'll be here if you and your family want to stop in for the holidays. Have a happy and safe holiday season everyone.

From 1974 to 1988, Merrill had its own little connection to Hollywood when the films of Bill Rebane were being shot here. The Merrill Historical Society wants to preserve and celebrate this time in our history and is asking you for help. Were you involved in any of these films? Maybe you or someone you know has pictures taken during filming? We want your stories. We want your pictures. You can call, email, or we can meet in person.

But you aren't the only ones working on this. We're busy researching and putting some fun things together too. 2019 is going to be fun.
