May not look like much, but it’s a project that’s been in the works for a long time.

For the first time in many years, our Museum is fully lit. Our President, Ed Duke, and fellow Board Member, Scott Davis, have both worked tirelessly over the last couple of months to retrofit our classic fixtures with new LED lighting.

These new lights are brighter and more energy efficient than the older style that have been in place.

We’re proud of this accomplishment and we owe all of our donors and supporters a huge thank you for this. Without your help, we couldn’t have been able to make it happen. So thank you!

Today we said goodbye to our President, Dylan Jones (left), and welcomed our new President, Ed Duke (middle). Also pictured is fellow Board Member, Scott Davis, who is one of the hardest working men you’d ever meet.

Dylan has chosen a new career path following his passion, which has also resulted in him having to relocate out of Meridian.

Dylan had this to say during his final days with us, “I grew up in this Museum. I’ve been coming here with my parents and grand parents since around age 5, this old building has been my home. It’s where all of my friends and mentors have been my whole life. I’ll admit that I’m saddened to leave since this place has literally be my second home, but I’m confident that Ed and the rest of the Board will continue the progress we’ve worked hard on these last 8 months. I appreciate everyone in this community that supported our efforts during my time here. I’ll never forget the memories we’ve made. Please, continue to support our museum.”

As Dylan said his goodbyes today, Ed and Scott went right back to work installing the new interior LED lights that YOU, our supporters, helped us purchase. One of the few projects Dylan and the gang worked tirelessly to raise funds for will finally be finished for our community to enjoy.

Meridian Railroad Museum is in the heart of Downtown Meridian, Mississippi. Located down from Union Station on Front Street, the museum reopened earlier this year after a years-long effort by the Meridian Rails Historical Society - Meridian Railroad Museum to find a home. It is housed in the old Railway Express Agency Building, donated by the City of Meridian to the society in November 2021, along with the old cotton compress building. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Usually our posts are happy, and it's honestly disappointing that we even have to make such a post.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have had the now daily chore of cleaning up after some late night visitors here at the museum. It started with just food and trash and has sadly now increased to actual urine and other fluids that we're having to clean up...

We leave our back patio open to everyone. Whether you're coming to do your senior portraits, or just want to watch the trains in peace we've left it open. But after these last few weeks, it is apparent that some have no respect and are determined to ruin it for everyone.

We're getting cameras installed and better outdoor lighting as we type, as well as looking at option to remove the benches that everyone enjoys to sit in.

It is unfortunate that it has come to this, but its not healthy for our staff and volunteers to have to clean up some random persons fluids when there is literally a porta-potty under the bridge and restrooms at Union Station.

2023 is a year of "Firsts" for our organization and we're going to continue that until the end of the year.

We will be hosting a Storytelling Event with our friends from the Rose Hill Storytellers on October 7th here at the Railroad Museum. The stories will be focused on the great history that Meridian's railroad's have had in our community.

In addition to having the Rose Hill Storytellers involved, there will be an opportunity for you, our guests and members of our community, to tell stories as well. Whether you're a railroader here in Meridian, or you've had a relative who worked for the railroad in our area, we want you to be involved and hear your stories.

Join us in this great event. It will allow our Organization to have yet another chance to engage with our community and our supporters!
