This is all that is left of the Mentone early water company of 1887. The Palms line the site of the Ruby Reservoir that had piped water from Greenspot Spring located in Mill Creek east of Garnet Street. Ruby was the original name of Crafton Avenue as shown on the 1887 and 1888 maps of Mentone. Mentone eastern boundary was Ruby Street so the reservoir was just outside of Mentone. Mentone Elementary was built just west of the reservoir site in 1950.
