🎭 BACKSTAGE DRAMA AT THE MUSEUM! 🎭
Chaos has struck behind the scenes, and the show cannot go on!
The curtain is scheduled to rise at the Menominee Opera House on September 12th at 7:00 PM for Maude Adams' legendary performance of Peter Pan. But backstage, there is complete turmoil: our star actress is utterly distraught! Her essential, signature gloves—the ones she refuses to step onstage without—have completely vanished.
Was it a jealous schoolmarm pulling a spiteful stunt? Sabotage by a rival socialite? A well-meaning but thick-skulled saphead lumberjack? Or a shivering pioneer just looking to keep warm? Tensions are boiling over, and opening night will be ruined unless we find them!
We need local sleuths to step into the drama and track the clues across the museum before the clock runs out.

Menominee even had its own shoe factory: the Richardson Shoe Company. On the corner of 13th St and 16th Ave, the Richardson Shoe Company opened in 1897. They had a patent on a “Menominee Seamless Shoe” and in 1907 were turning out up 1800 pairs of shoes a day. These shoes were made in 200 different styles, and the factory used 20 different kinds of high-quality leather. These shoes were sold all over the world. This building was later Menominee Truck, Janson’s Ford Garage, and in 2016 the building was rebuilt to Alfredson Brothers warehouse.

Near Franck’s Shoe store was another shoe shop: John Peterson’s Shoe Shop. John (Pearson) Peterson was born in 1860 in Sweden. He was crippled in a farming incident by a fall from a hayrack and wore an orthopedic shoe, which many people in Menominee recall. He loved the water and sailing, and was a member of the Menominee Yacht Club. Peterson passed away in 1945. His shop was in Finntown, and after it was a shoe shop, it was a grocery store, and then a bicycle shop for many years

This boot, donated in 1979, is a camel-colored suede with a tiny heel and pointed toe. Brown laces of an elastic material run all the way to the tip of the shoe. The collar around ankle is of a thicker wool material with a black and brown diamond pattern. The interior is gray leather stamped with "Accent Shoes" in gold script. There is one single silver nail at the very tip of underside of shoe, perhaps acting as a heeltap, but at the toe of the shoe instead.

Under the beautiful sky and surrounded by the rich history of the Chappee Webber Learning Center, we were thrilled to host today’s Survival & Bushcraft Skills workshop led by Joshua Stuck (aka The Woodsy Dude)!
Both our younger and older classes picked up crucial, hands-on skills to help them stay safe and thrive in the outdoors. It was wonderful seeing so many excited faces leave with new confidence, and hearing such kind words from appreciative parents.
A huge thank you to Joshua for sharing his passion and delivering an unforgettable, educational day for our community! 🌲🔥😊
