I haven't finished a painting in a few months because of various other priorities. But I finally consider this one done. It just needs a nice glossy finish.

Finished this one the other day;
Troy NY, just across the river. Home of Uncle Sam, charming historical architecture and a lively Saturday farmers market among other things. Should I call it "Ode to Troy"?

I did a painting for a friend who's moving to New Mexico. She wanted something southwestern-ish and included the Zia sun symbol. I've never been to NM but this is based on some images I found of it's northern desert. This is a stylized interpretation capturing the essence of it.

Driving fast on the open highway is a wonderful experience. And thanks to ever increasing internet service we don't even need to look at the boring desert scenery.

Someone was giving away an old wooden Medieval Times shield and I thought it would be cool to paint something on it. (actually Sandra came across it and gave me the idea)
Naturally I was inspired to do a medieval fantasy design on it. It's not the kind of thing I've painted before, but then again I rarely paint the same theme twice.

My latest painting. All I can say about this work is the image looked cool in my head so I thought it would be fun to try and paint it.
I'm always intrigued by nautical paintings of raging seas, ships and sea monsters. Many are far beyond my skill level but I definitely understand the inspiration behind them.

I grew up in the Salt Lake City Utah area. I haven't lived there in 20 years, but we go back and visit when we can.
I've been following the sad news of the drought in the west and the evaporating Great Salt Lake.
I used to visit the Lake occasionally. It's always been a surreal place. Not the kind of place you want to bring a beach towel and windsurf or anything though maybe some people do that. It's intriguing to me that 130 years ago people treated it like Coney Island and built a giant pavilion called the Saltair. It burned down in 1925. A new one was rebuilt in the 40s but it also burned down in the 60s. Salair III was built in 1981 and has been there since but has been more or less an abandoned shell for the last 15 years.
As long as I remember Salt Lake wasn't a prime destination for locals; mostly taken for granted or even a slight embarrassment with its unpleasant aroma and pesky brine flies.
But the severe drought and alarmingly low water levels has reignited people's awareness and appreciation for the lake. Not to mention the threat of toxic dust on the lakebed that winds could stir up into the air and threaten the millions of residents along the wasatch front. Legislation has passed to study the lake and conserve water and people have conserved to help get more water to and save the lake.
Surprisingly this year has had record levels of snow pack and the lake is expected to rise a couple feet which is great. But I would only be cautiously optimistic because one year of good snow can't reverse several years of drought and rising temperatures.

Its a uniquely beautiful and amazing place that needs to be preserved.

Anyway this is my latest painting.

I finished this painting of Linus, a handsome Belgian Malinois who loved playing catch at the lake. He sadly passed away from cancer recently. This was my cousin's friends' dog. I never met him but my cousin asked if I could paint him as a gift to her friends. I was happy to do it and hope they enjoy it.
