Thank you, NSU! 💜

Yesterday several student volunteers from NSU stopped by to assist in creating informative placards for display at the Lemee House. These ladies did a fantastic job and we are so grateful for their help! It’s through kind acts like this that historic preservation organizations like ours can thrive🧡

🍋APHN Summer Social🍋

Thank you to all who attended yesterday’s White Linen Night! We had an incredible array of dishes, great company, and a fantastic music set by Melinda Bremmer. Members got to mingle with newcomers and old friends alike, making this event a special time for all. We are so grateful to our membership, neighbors, and friends!

Special thanks is extended to the APHN volunteers who made the Lemee House shine in preparation for our guests and those who made dishes and desserts. We are thankful also for the incredible people and organizations that donated baskets for the occasion. Those who donated include the Bank of Montgomery, Hospice of Natchitoches (Sylvia LaCour), Maggio’s (Angela Eversull), Kerri LaFornara, Rena Baudouin, and Ali Rhodes and Jennifer Thornton! A thank-you is also in order for our event’s musician, Melinda Bremmer.

A huge thank-you to the Krewe of Dionysos! 🍇

This past Thursday, the Krewe generously presented the APHN with a donation of $500 to support our annual Third Grade Children’s Tour. With this contribution, we will be able to continue to provide historic education to the children of Natchitoches Parish at this event. It’s a day of fun that celebrates our city’s unique and enduring historic legacy. All of us here at APHN are grateful for the kindness and generosity shown by the Krewe in supporting our parish’s children!

Special recognition and thanks is extended to the Krewe members who presented the donation at the Lemee House: Captain Leonard Sarpy, Treasurer Carolyn Benefield, and Queen Jodi Shirley. APHN Board members present included Chris Evans, Chair of the Third Grade Children’s Tour, and APHN President Arleen Mayeux.

Did you know? 🌿

The resurrection fern (pleopetlis polypodioides) gets its name from its unique ability to “resurrect” after periods of drought. According to the National Wildlife Federation, this incredible plant can lose up to around 97% of its internal water content without dying!

When you visit Melrose, you may see rich green ferns blanketing our live oaks, or you may see curly clusters of gray leaves. These resilient plants are alive either way! They stand the test of time, much like the buildings of Melrose themselves.

On your next visit, be sure to keep an eye out for resurrection ferns! 🌿
