History comes to life-out of the library and onto the landscape! The Peace Treaty re-enacts the stories of the "Discovery, Exploration, and Settlement" of the Great Central Plains area. From Coronado, Lewis and Clark, and Pike, to the era of the Mountain Men. The Treaty of 1867 was signed with the 5 Southern Plains Tribes to make the land safe for the Pioneers who were making their way westward across the prairie, and their tough times ahead.

A Piece of Peace Treaty Pageant History

Meet Dorothy Whitehorse DeLaune, her connection to the Peace Treaty Pageant began when she was just a little girl. Born in 1933, Dorothy appeared as an “actress” in the 1937 and 1941 Peace Treaty Pageants, taking on a memorable role in the production - the child being pulled behind a horse in a travois. In 1947, Dorothy was ready to participate for a third time, but by then she had grown too big for her famous role!

Her memories of the Pageant didn’t end there, though. Dorothy’s dad would sit horseback, completely motionless, overlooking the Pageant for hours, year after year. She was able to drive around the Powwow and Pageant grounds this year, and new exactly where "his" spot once was.

Stories like Dorothy’s are what make the Peace Treaty Pageant so much more than a performance. They are pieces of family history, community history, and memories passed down through generations.

As we look toward the 2027 Centennial Peace Treaty Pageant, we’re grateful for the generations of people like Dorothy and her family who have been part of this tradition.

100 years of stories. 100 years of memories. 100 years of Peace Treaty Pageant history.

Wagon & Stagecoach Rides Were a Hit!

One of the most popular activities at this year’s Peace Treaty Festival Weekend was our wagon and stagecoach rides around the amphitheater!

For three straight hours, the wagons were moving nonstop. There was hardly a moment of downtime, with people constantly lined up and ready to hop on for a ride. And one of the best parts? So many of our riders were out-of-town guests who got to experience a little piece of Medicine Lodge history and loved every minute of it!

A HUGE thank-you to our drivers who kept the rides rolling all afternoon:

👏 Raymond Affeldt
👏 Debra Adams
👏 Ty Snyder
👏 Jamie Miller
👏 Cody Hamm
👏 Kyle Thomas

Your time, hard work, and willingness to keep those wagons moving made this experience possible!

There’s just something special about seeing the amphitheater from the back of a wagon or stagecoach and we’re so glad our visitors got to experience it. Thank you to everyone who climbed aboard!

One of the most special parts of this Peace Treaty Festival Weekend was getting an early taste of next year’s Pageant!

This year’s parade was filled with incredible participation, and we loved seeing some of our favorite pageant scenes make their way down the street, from the Night Show participants to the stagecoach to our Spanish dancers.

These scenes are more than just parade entries, they are a glimpse into the history and tradition that have made the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Pageant such an important part of our community for nearly 100 years.

A HUGE thank-you to everyone who brought these scenes to life, whether you were riding, walking, dancing, driving, dressing up, or helping behind the scenes. Your time and enthusiasm make the parade, and Peace Treaty Weekend, something our community is always so proud of.

Thank you for helping keep the tradition alive!

And an extra thank you to The Gyp Hill Premiere for all of the coverage and photos from our events!

What a weekend!

One of the biggest highlights of this year’s Peace Treaty Weekend was seeing participation increase by 60% from 2025! That kind of growth is a reflection of the support, excitement, and community that continues to make this event so special.

We also want to give a big shot out for the improvements made at the rodeo grounds this year! The new ticket booth and concrete at the gate made such a difference, especially on a rainy night. It made getting in and getting around so much easier for our guests, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make those improvements happen.

From the rodeo and powwow to the vendors, food, entertainment, and all the families who came out to celebrate, thank you, Medicine Lodge, and everyone who traveled to join us!

We’re already looking forward to what’s next.
