Our new Mead Area Mini Museum is now open. it is located in the Sugar MIll Sugar Mill Antiques & Vintage Depot. Come learn a little about our history. We plan on rotating exhibits so every few months there should be something new.

Thank you to Sarah and Van Morgan and their family for helping to make this possible, and for all their hard work putting this exhibit together.

Announcement!

The Mead Area Historical Society and the Sugar Mill Antique and Vintage Depot, are proud to announce that that we are partnering on a long, wished for project. The Sugar Mill Antique and Vintage Depot is giving us a small space to help share some of our area's rich history.

The owners, Sarah and Van Morgan and I are working hard on this exhibit. We are planning on finishing the first phase of our exhibit in time for Saturday, which is their 5th Anniversary celebration of their businesses opening.

Along with our mini exhibit, both my book, Highlandlake and Mead, and Mark French's latest book, "Floyd Clymer, Berthoud's Kid Auto Agent," are going to be available for purchase. I will be available to sign my book. Mark is planning on being there as soon as the store opens so if your early, you may be able to get him to sign his book as well.

I know that Saturday's weather isn't going to be perfect, but it sure will be nice to see as many of you who can make it. The store opens at 10 am. and is located at 13788 Pacific Circle, Mead, CO 80542. For those who have not been there before, it is on the east side of I-25, and south of Hwy. 66, near Tractor Supply and next door to the Mead Veterinary Medical Center.

Tomorrow (Dec 2), is the end of the Colorado Gives Day. If you add up the donations that we have so far, including the two recurring donations, the total only adds up to $900. That is a long way from even starting a scholarship fund. If you are thinking about donating before the end of the year, please consider us. You can designate which project you want to donate to.

We are raising funds to pay an architectural preservationist to complete the application to get the Mead Methodist church building listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
We also want to establish an annual History Legacy Scholarship for seniors at Mead High School. Total needed to raise is: $10,000.

We have great news to share!

"History Colorado has determined that the Mead Methodist Church is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places for Criteria A (Social History) and Criteria C (Architecture)."

Now the real work begins!

This year, the Mead Area Historical Society, has chosen to focus on trying to get the UB/Mead Methodist church listed on the State and National Registries of Historic Places.

The process can take a year or more. For this project we are working jointly with the Mead Methodist church. The preliminary evaluation form is almost complete and should be submitted in the next week or two. If the property is deemed eligible, then the real work will begin. In the meantime, we will keep you posted here.
