Come to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum for the one-and-only Spruce Goose Tour! This iconic wooden aircraft, piloted by Howard Hughes in 1947, has a wingspan longer than a football field and is the largest wooden aircraft and largest seaplane ever built. 🛩️✨
🛫 The Spruce Goose was conceived by Howard Hughes during World War II when German submarines were sinking hundreds of Allied ships, and there was a growing need to move troops and materials across the Atlantic Ocean. Six times larger than any aircraft of its time, it is made entirely of wood and flew just one time on November 2, 1947, in Long Beach, California.
👨✈️ Our 15-minute tour behind the scenes of the Spruce Goose is led by knowledgeable docent guides that share fascinating insights about the engineering marvel and its storied history. It includes exclusive access to the cockpit and flight stations on the upper flight deck - allowing you to see and sit where aviation pioneer and inventory, Howard Hughes, once sat for the plane's historic flight.
🎟️ Tour capacity is 4 people per tour, available for $24 per person. Members get free tours, so be sure to ask about our Membership & Group discounts. Tours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and usually sell out by noon, so plan ahead!
