Happy Coast Guard Day!
Coast Guard turns 236
Did you know? The Coast Guard was originally called the Revenue Cutter Service, and it was created by Alexander Hamilton to enforce tariffs, combat piracy, and smuggling? That the Revenue Cutter Service and the US Life Saving Service combined in 1915 to become the US Coast Guard? That John F Kennedy created the Coast Guard "Racing Stripe" That both Bridges Brothers (Jeff and Beau) served in the USCGR? That the Coast Guard has been under 3 different US Departments since its inception? (The Dept. of Treasury, Dept. of Transportation, and the Dept. of Homeland Security). And that the Coast Guard rescues an average of 3,500 people annually.
Salute to the men and women that have served and those that currently serve in the US COAST GUARD!
