Highland County Museum

Highland County Museum Built in 1851 by George Washington Hull, it is believed to have been the first large brick home in McDowell, and was soon known as The Mansion House.

Open yearly 2nd weekend in March - November 1; other times by appointment only

McDowell Battlefield Orientation Center, Highland County history and genealogy resources and exhibits

Admission is free, but donations are welcomed - and tax-deductible It served as a hospital during the Battle of McDowell in May 1862 and now houses the McDowell Battlefield Orientation Center. For many years around t

he turn of the century, the Bradshaw family operated the Mansion House Hotel to meet the needs of travelers on the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike.

Lots of stuff left from yesterday. This will be the last “donation” based yard sale. Nothing goes back for next year. Come pack a bag and make a donation OR gather up some things for your nonprofit yard sale. Anything left at noon goes to the dump.

Looking for some historical information. I've compiled a good list of early industries in Highland from the Centennial Recorder issue. But they didn't list any contractors or logging operations.
