🌿 CALLING ALL TRADITIONAL CRAFTSPEOPLE & ARTISANS! 🌿

The Village at Hawk Creek is looking for craftspeople, makers, and traditional artisans who would enjoy sharing their skills during a special event on the historic village grounds.

We are seeking individuals who can demonstrate traditional crafts and life skills for approximately two hours:

📅 Monday, October 19, 2026

⏰ 6:00–8:00 PM

📍 The Village at Hawk Creek — McDonald, Tennessee

👥 Private event — approximately 100 attendees

We’re especially interested in demonstrations that help people experience and understand the skills, tools, materials, and traditions that shaped everyday life — the kinds of things that were once simply part of daily living.
Ideas might include:

🧶 Spinning, weaving, or natural fiber work
🪵 Traditional woodworking or carving
🧺 Basketry
🔥 Blacksmithing
🕯️ Candle making
🧼 Traditional soap making
🪡 Quilting, sewing, or textile arts
🌿 Herbalism or traditional plant uses
🪶 Traditional tool or craft making
…and other hands-on traditional skills!

There will also be an opportunity to display and sell your work to attendees.

If you have a traditional craft, trade, skill, or life way you love to share — and would enjoy bringing it to life for an audience — we’d love to hear from you!

I’m overwhelmed by the beautiful and supportive feedback on our partnership with the Woodsong school. Thank you!!
I also want to give a big warm welcome to our new followers. The enthusiasm of this group over the years has been a key driver in my ongoing commitment to preserve my father’s legacy at Hawk Creek.
Many of you asked for more information about the folk school and I expect Woodsong will post more soon. Currently they are busy with renovation and upkeep as well as the end of the school year. You can reach out to them directly to register your interest at [email protected]

Big hello to fans of The Village at Hawk Creek in McDonald, Tennessee! It’s been way too long.

I am overjoyed to announce that the Woodsong Forest School has taken over the full operation of the Village at Hawk Creek. In this capacity they will be maintaining and improving the property as well as using it for public and private events and education.

This means that the Village will continue in operation as a historic site and that you will have on-going opportunities to visit and participate. To begin with, Woodsong is launching a Folk School at the Village this spring, with blacksmithing classes, woodworking workshops, ceramics classes, quilting, bluegrass instrument making, and more! After my parents passed away (in 2018 and 2023 respectively) the estate was tied up in multiple ownership and trusts. Late last year I was finally able to acquire the full rights to the property in order to ensure that my father’s dream for his Village could be protected.

During this time Bonnie Cretton of Woodsong approached me with a beautiful proposal. In addition to finalizing a long term lease of the Village and surrounding property, Woodsong has now purchased my parents’ former home. With this partnership in place, Woodsong and I are able to preserve this special place with its beautiful creeks, forests, and fields, as well as carry out the wishes of my father for his Village to be used for the education of youth about our pioneer past.

As a part of our agreement, Woodsong will now administer this page and keep it updated.

We are excited to announce that the Village at Hawk Creek will be open to the public for a Holiday Faire on December 7th from 11 to 3 for the benefit of the Woodsong Forest School. There will be food available, music, and craft demonstrations, including in the blacksmith's shop. It's sure to be a good time!

This is the first time we've been able to open since my mother's death, and hopefully it will be the start of many more events. Thank you for your patience while we worked out the property issues and stay tuned for more exciting news in the near future!
