🚂 MEET THOMAS WALTER YARBOROUGH (1887 to 1953)

Did you know that some of the men who worked on the railroad in McComb spent more than 30 years of their lives there?

Thomas Walter Yarborough was one of them!

Thomas moved to McComb around 1920 and went to work in the Illinois Central Railroad shops. He was known as a "car man," and over the years his work included carpentry, repairing railcars and working as a mechanic.

He and his wife, Edna, raised their four children in McComb, and the railroad remained a big part of his life until his passing in 1953.

There's so much more to Thomas's story, including some wonderful old photographs!

Visitors from seven foreign countries, 19 states, and many Mississippi adults and children have enjoyed our model trains, historical artifacts, railroad displays, and educational films. Y’all come see us from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. If you have a club, church, or school group needing another day, we will make arrangements to accommodate you.

🚂 Have you visited the McComb Depot lately?

We’ve loved seeing visitors come through our doors from all over, but if you live right here in Pike County and haven’t stopped by lately, you might be surprised by what you find!

The Depot is about so much more than the railroad. It’s a place to discover the history of Pike County and the people and communities that made it what it is today.

New exhibits and artifacts are added and changed throughout the museum, so even if you’ve visited before, there’s always a reason to come back.

Come see what’s inside. You just might learn something new about the place you call home. ❤️

Our depot is drawing visitors from around the world.

Since it opened on March 7, the McComb Railroad Depot Museum has welcomed guests from Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Scotland, Australia and Israel.

1,408 people have now come through the door. Three in ten traveled from outside Mississippi, and nearly half are our own Pike County neighbors.

Across 207 days open, the museum has brought in $11,058 in guest income and $182 in sales tax for the City.

Thank you to Sam and Ganeath Daniel for keeping the doors open and the stories alive.

What a great Friday morning with two awesome presentations !
Robert Accardo gave a program on natural medicines and showed some of his handmade wood crafts.
Jerry and Belinda Scoggins , experts in
canning, demonstrated making blueberry jelly and canned chicken.
A good time was had by all !

We had visitors from Denham Springs, Louisiana, and Texas today! 🚂 We love seeing where everyone is from, and we’re just as thankful for our local folks who stop in to see us too.

If you haven’t made it by yet, come see us! We’re open Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Saturdays are by appointment only.

And don’t forget about us when you’re looking for something fun to do with a group. Church groups, clubs, friends, family, whoever! Come tour the Depot, learn a little Pike County history and then grab lunch downtown. There are some great places nearby like The Dinner Bell , The Broadway Deli and 1905 Teddy's Bourbon Bar/featuring Fox's .

Our exhibits change pretty often too, so just because you’ve been once doesn’t mean you’ve seen it all. Come back and see what you find next time! ❤️🚂

Thank you so much to everyone who nominated us and voted for us. We truly appreciate every single one of you.

We also want to congratulate this year’s winner, PALS! Pike County has so many wonderful nonprofits filled with people who care about this community and work hard to make it better. We’re proud to be among them.
