Another week means another #WorkshopWednesday with the International Museum of Art & Science! Construct a kit to press flowers, grasses and leaves at home. Once they dry, take them out and observe them closer or make fun art with them! Depending on size, foliage takes 5-20 days to dry out.

In this video learn how to press flowers using items you have in your home. (Remember to use flowers and leaves you find on the ground rather than pulling from bushes and trees.)

Supplies:
○ Scissor or X-Acto Knife
○ Corrugated Cardboard
○ Ruler
○ Pencil
○ Plain Computer Paper (several sheets)
○ Heavy Books

Today marks 50 years of celebrating Earth Day and this year's theme is Climate Action. 🌎

In addition to other Earth Day resources on our website, we also want to share the SOS Explorer™ Mobile app with you!

With this free resource, you can enjoy access to data sets and computer models of climate activity, including climate models predicting the temperature of the Earth through the year 2100 for different greenhouse gas emissions scenarios, usually only seen on a 6-foot sphere in select large museum spaces like IMAS!

This Thursday, learn how you can save damaged personal heirlooms including photographs, books, and textiles after a natural disaster. We’re teaming up with Smithsonian Cultural Rescue Initiative for a “Saving Your Family Treasures” workshop on Facebook live! Join us at 12:00 pm ET on Thursday, April 23.

The International Museum of Art & Science is a Smithsonian Affiliate and fully accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. IMAS is the premier art and science museum of South Texas and contains over 50,000 square feet of exhibit space. The IMAS galleries host a number of revolving art and science exhibits each year. The museum provides a unique opportunity for visitors to participate in hands-on science exhibits and to learn about original works of art while encouraging creativity and innovation. The IMAS permanent collection includes more than 2,000 natural history and geology specimens and 4,500 folk art and textile objects. The 1,500 fine art works in the permanent collection reflect many countries and artistic movements beyond Mexico, dating from the 16th century to the present.
