Yes, Merlin Wood was the first mayor of Matamoras. Evidently there are a number of true, local historians who knew the answers to the questions asked!

The Schoolhouse belongs to the Town of Deerpark. Exhibits and a seventeen-panel timeline depict the history of the Town. The Town Historian Office is located in the same building.
