Evacuation order has been lifted for downtown Martinsburg.

IMPORTANT: The evacuation for the .5 mile radius surrounding the Sewage Treatment Plant @ 500 E. John St has been lifted, all streets are open, and everyone is free to return to their home. Please proceed back to the area in an orderly fashion. Thank you for your patience and cooperation throughout this process.

Upon returning home: If you smell unknown odors upon entry open doors and windows to allow air flow and the dissipation of odors. If you have fans turn those on to facilitate the flow of air.

Fire & Police units will be stationed in various neighborhoods to assist residents. If you have issues upon returning home, or relative questions, please proceed to a nearby First Response Unit for assistance.

If you are unable to locate a First Response Unit, then please contact us

IMPORTANT: Evacuation perimeter of .5 mile of 500 E. John St. will remain in effect until the AM of 12/24 while the chemical response team and EPA work to remove the hazard from the area. Updates will be released as additional information becomes available.

IMPORTANT: Beginning from the Sewage Treatment Plant @ 500 E. John St a .5 mile radius of evacuation has been put into place due to an accidental chemical mixture of Sodium Hypochlorate and Ferric chloride during a transport tanker offload. The situation is under control and the chemicals are contained within a tank, but the evacuation will be in place until further analysis can be completed to confirm the dispersal of the chemical, and that the area is safe to enter. Please stay tuned for further details, attached is a map of the effected area. Please Share!

Downtown Martinsburg was closed as far west as Raleigh Street, as far north as Ray Street and as far south as South Street. The treatment plant is in the 500 block of East John Street, east of downtown.

The governor said he has directed West Virginia Tourism Commissioner Chelsea Ruby to research and pursue increasing tourism-related MARC train ridership.

Take a chilling walk into the darkness of the town’s past! Historical horror, hauntings, and grim and gruesome tales will have you looking over your shoulder! These are not your garden variety type stories, but stories that involve real people and real events from the town’s long, often tumultuous history mixed with the legends and paranormal accounts.

Plunge into the dark of the night and walk amongst the dead as we explore the town’s most historic and haunted cemeteries! Statues that come to life, hell hounds, curses, a violent spirit, and screaming apparitions are among the stories of the dead that will be brought to life in the most frightening places imaginable. End the night inside a very creepy, and haunted mausoleum! Are you brave enough?

No children under 13 on tours(no exceptions!) Reservations are a must and need to be made by calling 304-261-7470.
