In 1927, Dr. Hoidale and Dr. W.G. Workman purchased a large home at 6th and Rowland and remodeled it to become the Clinic Hospital. For many years, Dr. Hoidale and Dr. Warner Workman operated the Clinic Hospital at Sixth and Rowland until the new Tracy Municipal Hospital was opened in 1961. Join the Minnesota Humanities Center, Danger Boat Productions, and Marshall community for the Sketches of Minnesota civic improv comedy tour! These free events use laughter and comedy to celebrate Minnesota communities, promote dialogue, bridge divides, and help find ways to work constructively across differences in today’s political environment.

Beginning with a catered meal by El Rancho Mexican Restaurant, these gatherings invite audience members to share what makes their town great, what they think people get wrong about it, what local divisions concern them, and what future they imagine. An improv comedy troupe listens in on the conversations, takes everything they heard from residents, and brings it to life on stage through entirely unscripted improv comedy theater.

5:00–6:00 PM: Doors open / Community hour
6:00–7:15 PM: Dinner
7:15–8:00 PM: Improv show
8:00–8:30 PM: Talkback

“Please note that the improv performance will not involve any members of the audience, nor will individuals be featured in any way. Key themes will be taken from dinner conversations to inform the show.”

📷 THROWBACK THURSDAY! Photograph with caption of the Lyon County School District #80 schoolhouse and students taken in 1905 is featured in the Minneota Centennial book, which was published in 1981.

History of District #80:
Built on section 8 of Westerheim Township, along the Yellow Medicine River, year unknown. The front entry on the building was added at some point. Lyon County School District #80 consolidated with Lyon County Joint Independent Consolidated School District #20, Minnesota in 1953 (after 1957, Independent School District #414, Minnesota).

The schoolhouse was donated to the Lyon County Historical Society in 1970 by George and Beatrice Buysse. At the time, the building was painted white and was later painted red by the Historical Society.

The schoolhouse was moved to the Lyon County Fairgrounds where it resided until October of 1994, when it was moved to the West Side Elementary School playground. Lyon County donated the moving cost and concrete foundation.

In August of 2021, the schoolhouse was moved back to the Lyon County Fairgrounds due to the demolition of West Side Elementary School and the opening of Southview Elementary. Lyon County donated the moving cost and concrete foundation.

The schoolhouse will be open this week during the Lyon County Fair:
